Eagles still in 20's

Just got back from a local coin show here in south florida. Spot on silver was 16.36 this weekend(according to kitco). To my(almost) amazemnt silver eagles were still anywhere between 19 and 24 dollars each. I picked a few up for 18 from a dealer friend, but he was still selling to the general public at 19 ish. Most of the 2008's were in the high 20's, with 24 being the highest I saw period but the average was still between 21-22.

That said, those prices were only one what was available. There were probably over 50 dealers there, not a single one eager to sell. Everyone I would go up to would, even before saying hello, ask if I had anything to sell and some would just turn away when I said "Nope".

Hardly ANYTHING was available other numismatics and morgans. There were literaly NO 90% after the first hour because there was SO little to begin with it all got bought, quick!

Just thought Id share a little of my recent experiences and see if anyone else is having any similar.

My 08-W eagles with the 07 reverse, start in the $200's.
I only have 8 of them that I paid $25 for, I'll just hang on and see what happens when the final mintage is posted?

This demonstrates that lots of people recognize the spot price is BULLSHIT.

My folks went to a gun show yesterday, mom called to tell ME the rediculous prices on some coins. I told her to check on ASE's, everybody had the same price on them $24, I told her to keep her money in her pocket cause I asked the guy at the coin shop Friday and his price is $22. HH Mark

08 eagles are holding their fat premium but off years less so.

You said it! I found I had 19 engelhard rounds, so I needed 1 more to fill up a coin tube right?
After over a week of not winning a single low bid I just bought one for $22 shipped. The spot price is BS.

callin BS as well

went to pick up a bit today and i have to say i usually leave scratching my head. eagles were 20 @ $16.62, then i asked about maples and got a few for 19. picked up some dimes for 1.25 just to get rid of that extra paper.

i'm still not sure what's goin on with spot versus reality. from a pure bullion perspective , i'd rather get my 999 as close to spot as possible.

on the other hand, if i can get maples cheaper than eagles, isnt that a good thing? i'm steering away from the 90 for a while other than dimes. the dimes seem to be a great way to get rid of a buck.

Just picked up some 1985 Mexican Libertads today in Tucson for $19. Love those older, fatter Libertads. ASE's were $21. He had no Canada maples or generic rounds. Forgot to ask about 90%. Duh.
Nice place with a bid board - haven't run across a shop with a coin bid board in Phoenix. There was a one ounce silver Isle of Man bid up to $22 - he didn't have any for sale tho.

Do the mint limit the mintage of ASEs for a year?

Stopped at another coin shop on my way out of Tucson. Got 2008 Maple Leafs, Libertads, and ASEs for $20 each. Found three one ounce rounds I don't have for $18 each. They have a bid board too, and he told me if there were no bids on an item I could have it for the opening bid plus 10%, so picked off a Philharmonic with a starting bid at $19, which should have cost me $20.90, but he let me have it for $20. I paid $25 for my other Philharmonic here in Phoenix. Maybe I'll move to Tucson!

can someone tell me what is so special about 1996 SAE's why do they sell for so far above spot?
